Day 17

We had some stormy weather yesterday, so the framers didn't work. Today had some rain, so while they got some things done, they weren't there this afternoon when I went to take pictures.
Looks like we've moved from house framing to roof framing now!
A view from the master bedroom up - the master bedroom only has attic space above it.
Again, from the master bedroom toward the second floor.

We're supposed to have good weather for the next 10 days (according to weather underground and weather.com both!) so hopefully the framing can be completed pretty soon. Once it is done, we won't have to worry so much about it - although Justin assures me that houses get wet during framing all the time!

Day 16

Here's today's pictures!
I cannot believe how fast they have worked.
Kitchen
Great room - two windows and the fireplace opening in the middle.
Dining room

This is one of the upstairs bedrooms.

Day 15

I wasn't sure if the guys would be working today, because it rained a lot of the morning. But sure enough, there they were!
Looks like most of the second floor's sub-floor is in.
Pushing an exterior wall up into place before nailing.
Pulling up some more wood...
The front upstairs bedroom, which will either be the boys' or Meredith's, on the left and the bonus room on the right.

The house is really going up fast.

Kitchen rendering!!

I'm really excited about my kitchen in the new house!! Most of you following this blog know that I LOVE to cook, and I'll do just about anything for a good pan. My favorite stores are Williams-Sonoma and Sur La Table. I have a lot of kitchen stuff, and I have a lot of kids. So I am not kidding when I say I need a big kitchen.
The refrigerator will be this one. The dishwasher will be this one. I posted the cabinets and granite choice here, if you need the reminder. All appliances will be stainless steel.
On this wall, we have this gas cooktop and this vent. In the drawing, it shows a single wall oven, but we are actually getting these double wall ovens.

And in the middle is this awesome prep island. It has cabinets on both sides.

Excited doesn't even seem adequate.

Day 14

Today brought work on the second floor floor. Yes, that sentence makes sense...
I think the different colored beams are main support beams, but I'm not sure.
These are floor joists. They are pre-made. The rest of the house has been stick built on site.
Looking up into what will be the second floor floor. Maybe I should say second story floor :)
This is looking into the kitchen.

And this is looking into the great room and beyond into the master bedroom.

Day 13

Which shall be known as the day where I had to stop referring to the lot as "the lot" and start referring to it as "the house."
This is what it looked like at 9:30 this morning. Slab, stacks of wood.
People starting to cut some wood up...
And more wood waiting to be cut. But it didn't seem like (to me) that anything was going to going up today, so I wasn't TOO excited. Hey, no worries - it's been a crazy nearly two weeks already. So I wasn't really prepared for what I saw when we went back this afternoon.
Holy. Crap. It's a HOUSE.
Maybe a budding architect?
Maddie!!
Maddie in the laundry room!
Dining room!

I couldn't believe how fast it went up! There were things there for tomorrow to start putting the second floor on too! So yeah, we're officially on "house" status and not "lot" status anymore. Holy crap.

Day 12

Foundation day!!! There are a lot of pictures on this post - and what is posted is only a fraction of the pictures I took - because I was really fascinated by the process of pouring and smoothing the concrete. I've never seen it done before.
This is what it looks like fully prepped and ready for concrete.
The concrete pump.
Directing the flow of concrete.

More concrete
The rest of the guys push the concrete around while one directs the concrete.
This man has a remote control to help direct the concrete hose.
The two guys bent over are leveling the concrete. There are metal beam like things that are set on grade to keep it level.
Smoothing the concrete.
The whole operation pouring and smoothing concrete in what will be the kitchen.
Final smoothing in what will be the dining room.
Later this afternoon, we went back to check it out. Sam had a great time running on the huge expanse of concrete.
And jumping from one level to the other - with Meredith's help!
This is the foundation of our home! Framing begins tomorrow!!!

Day 11

Today, more prep work was done for having the foundation poured. Here, you can see a moisture barrier and rebar being laid.
More of the same.
And this is the electrical conduit for the huge island in the kitchen!!

Concrete truck arrives at 9:30 am tomorrow!!

Day 10

I was right yesterday when I thought today would bring the rough plumbing!
This is the powder room and master bath.
Not exactly sure what this is....
Kitchen somethings...
It's interesting how they do plumbing here, but I would be lying if I didn't admit that it makes me a little nervous to have pipes under concrete in my house. What happens if one of these pipes break? Is that possible? I honestly don't know! I'm guessing that if it does, it's pretty rare, because houses are built this way all the time!

I just thought it looked funny with all the pipes sticking up!

Tomorrow.....foundation pour? That's my guess!
